In the past 4½ years as Deputy Manager at the Wellington Accident & Urgent Medical Centre, I have quickly learnt that while facing the obvious challenges of a practice that is open every day from 8am-11pm, the benefits of good and effective practice management, support for personal development and the implementation of systems which keep up with technology and produce the desired outcome, can lead to a productive, financially viable, healthy and safe work environment for everyone.

I am excited to be involved with PMAANZ at the National level and especially at a time when the Executive are successfully raising our profile within both the health and business industries, as our recent annual conference in Wellington demonstrated. Involvement at high levels on community-based and school committees and as a member of my son’s high school Board of Trustees became a busy, yet wonderfully insightful period in my life and from which I gained many of the skills I believe I’ve brought into both my work and personal ethic today.

As an active member and local Branch Chair, I am passionate about encouraging new members to join and become involved with PMAANZ and to grow their personal and professional development within a supportive and professional organization.  Albeit with a little trepidation, I plan to start papers towards the NZIM Certificate in Practice Management (Health) in 2011. After 23 years in the health industry, I have found the friendships made and encouragement provided by the practice managers and professional individuals I have met over the past few years to be most inspirational and will endeavour to promote PMAANZ and it’s principles with the same enthusiasm.
